Opensight® herbicide combines aminopyralid and metsulfuron-methyl in a dry, water dispersible granule formulation. The combination of these two active herbicide ingredients broadens the weed control spectrum and allows applicators to control noxious weed complexes with one application.
Noxious and invasive weeds on roadsides and rangelands often occur as a complex or mixed stand of various species that may include knapweeds (Centaurea sp.), thistle (Cirsium and others), houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale), whitetop (Cardaria draba), or common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare). Growth regulator herbicides such as Milestone® (aminopyralid) provide excellent control of knapweeds and thistle, but have less activity on weeds such as mustard and common tansy. In contrast, metsulfuron-methyl provides excellent control of whitetop, common tansy, and houndstongue but poor control of knapweeds and thistle. Opensight® herbicide combines aminopyralid and metsulfuron-methyl in a dry, water dispersible granule formulation. The combination of these two active herbicide ingredients broadens the weed control spectrum and allows applicators to control noxious weed complexes with one application. The maximum label use rate for Opensight is 3.3 oz product/A, which contains 1.7 oz acid equivalent (ae) of aminopyralid (equal to 7 fl oz Milestone) and 0.36 oz active ingredient of metsulfuron-methyl (equal to 0.5 oz of a 60% ai metsulfuron product).
Key invasive weeds controlled by Opensight include: Thistles (including bolted thistles), knapweeds and starthistles, common tansy, wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa), poison hemlock (Conium maculatum), hoary cress (whitetop), houndstongue, common mullein (Verbascum thapsus), and sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata).

Chaparral™ herbicide was introduced in 2008 for weed and brush control in pastures and rangelands. This product is labeled for weed and brush control in CRP, rangelands and permanent grass pastures and is the product handled by retailers in your area for private landowner purchase.
Opensight® has been created specifically for public land managers with the following use sites listed on the label:
For control of susceptible weeds and certain woody plants, including invasive and noxious weeds, on non-cropland areas including industrial sites, rights-of-way (such as roadsides, electric utility and communication transmission lines, pipelines, and railroads), non-irrigation ditch banks, natural areas (such as wildlife management areas, wildlife openings, wildlife habitats, recreation areas, campgrounds, trailheads and trails), and grazed areas in and around these sites.
Quick dissolving, easy mixing granule formulation containing Milestone and metsulfuron-methyl
Low use rates 2 to 3.3 oz/acre
Low foaming and easy to mix in water
Controls over 160 broadleaf weeds and woody plants including many tough invasive or noxious weeds
Wide window of application including use in fall
Combines both pre-emergence and post-emergence activity to offer tank mix options to fit many site specific vegetation management needs
Adjuvant required for effective weed control (e.g., crop oil concentrate, methylated seed oil, or non-ionic surfactants)
Use in Injection Tanks
Mix 3.3 oz of product in 1 to 4 qt water
Compatible with most herbicides
Best if used daily due to potential degradation of metsulfuron-methyl in the spray through hydrolysis
